Being a modern yet clean energy alternative, battery-powered cars are no less complicated than regular ICE cars. Being a nightmare for daily drivers like me, battery-powered cars cannot be easily repaired as ICE cars.

Though EVs require much less maintenance than combustion engine cars (Nissan of Venice), their problem with batteries cannot be resolved by you and me. Although we are familiar with making some basic adjustments in diesel or petrol engines, batteries require special technicians.

Hence, keep up with me as I share my personal experience on why having skilled EV repair technicians by your side is necessary for you if you own an electric car.

The Rising Demand for EV Repair Technicians

EV has emerged as a new experience and gives a chance to explore new tech for people who have been using ICE engines for years. Hence, more people are shifting their interest to cleaner energy with almost zero pollution.

It can be a major opportunity for you, since the high demand for technicians will help you get a wide range of career options if you look at it from a professional perspective. The key is to upscale your skills so that you are well-qualified according to the changing demands of the industry.

Specialized Skills and Training

Since EV batteries are a new way to power cars, not many people are aware of how to repair them when needed. Neither did I, honestly. Hence, a technician here plays a key role in solving problems often faced by drivers.

To prove themselves helpful, the technician needs some skills and effective training to polish them:

  1. Battery technology: Batteries have various cell types, chemistry, and battery management systems (BMS) that keep everything functioning. A technician must be able to keep them intact.
  2. Electric motors and power electronics: More than 90% of the tech used in EVs are electric, and only some of them are mechanical. Hence, a technician with a keen knowledge of electricals and motors can be benefitted.
  3. Diagnostics and troubleshooting: EVs usually have sophisticated software programs that enhance the overall ride experience. Diagnostics and troubleshooting of those software programs can help greatly.
  4. Regenerative braking: A technician must know how to repair regenerative braking in cases they fail. This tech helps the car to recharge the battery when the brakes are applied.
  5. Charging infrastructure: Having a technician to help in charging infrastructure is a no-brainer. No car manufacturer can afford inefficient charging infra.

Indeed, one cannot master all these skills single-handedly. Hence, they should go with the option that suits them best.

DID YOU KNOW
In 2023, one in five cars sold was an EV. The rise was 35% more from 2022 and six times more than in 2018.

Battery Management Expertise

Again, the battery needs to be managed and maintained at all times. With a Battery Management System (BMS), you can monitor and manage the battery power as a driver. If this electronic unit fails, everything may go in vain.

Hence, keeping a BMS intact requires expertise. There are some key indicators that this device uses which are SOC, SOH, and SOP, which reflect different data at times. The most important solution that it provides is that BMS single-handedly resolves a range of anomalies that typically happen in batteries.

Diagnostic Challenges and Solutions

Diagnostic challenges in EVs typically occur in the BMS or other electrical parts of the vehicle. Some major diagnostic challenges that occur occasionally include:

  • Battery degradation
  • Charging issues
  • Complex electrical systems
  • Data interpretation

If not solved with time, it can cause serious damage to the EV. The following are some solutions:

  • Advanced diagnostic software
  • Data analysis and predictive maintenance
  • On-board diagnostic systems

With these solutions, you can minimize the risk to a great extent.

Safety Protocols and Standards

Safety while working is a must for technicians. Even at low voltages, electric current can cause serious damage. Hence, appropriate safety measures must be taken at all times. Also, equipment used in the process must be kept according to the requirements. They need to be certified with the required certifications to ensure proper safety.

After that, technicians must conduct a real-world test of the car so that it can be verified if the car is not fit for practical use or not.

Customer Service and Reliability

Customer service must be a priority for every brand in the market. Hence, keeping proper track of how the customer is provided with appropriate service is needed. Also, the product that the customer is delivered with must not have any type of fault or quality issue.

The car needs to be reliable and practical in different use cases. The graph below shows different car brands across the world that are prominent in providing reliable cars across their operating time.

The Environmental Impact

Compared to traditional ICE cars, EVs create almost negligible amounts of pollution. Along with that, the carbon footprint left by companies in their production is much less than the traditional cars.

However, cars that are not maintained can still leave more carbon footprint than those that are well-maintained. So, solutions like LAGAS EV Repair are always there to help you out with keeping your car’s condition up to the mark.
