A report by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg states that Apple is all set to implement a major AI update for Siri that will make the virtual assistant similar to Open AI’a CHATGPT and Gemini Live of Google. This assistant is expected to be named ‘LLM Siri’ which will use Apple’s AI models to facilitate more conversational and natural interactions with the users.
As a part of Apple’s initiative to enhance its iPhones with AI, Bloomberg reports that the company has plans to improve Siri’s capabilities for more complex tasks. The assistant will feature an extended capacity to use App Intent to interact with third-party applications and also use Apple Intelligence for summarizing and composing texts for the users.
Although Apple may roll out these plans as early as next year, it aims to replace the foundational software Siri works on with the new system by Spring 2026, according to Bloomberg. In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software suggested how AI-enhanced Siri will be different from ChatGPT.
He mentioned that the characteristics of OpenAI’s advanced voice mode and Siri are very different and the OpenAI mode excels in answering questions that are related to quantum mechanics, poetry, etc. Further adding he said that it does not have the capability to open your garage or to send text messages. Whereas, Siri performs many practical tasks for the users daily, executing them swiftly and locally on their devices.
As of now, Apple has adopted a cautious approach to its AI deployment, having only combined ChatGPT into Siri last month as a part of the iOS 18.2 beta. The company does have several other features planned for Siri including its capability to understand the content which is displayed on the screen of the users and take actions within the apps.
