OpenAI extends warm holiday greetings, the innovative AI company is all set to embark on its festive ‘shipmas’ celebrations beginning on the 5th of December. The celebration features a wide range of exciting things, that include, products, features and demonstrations over a span of 12 days.
The unique text-to-video long-awaited tool of OpenAI, Sora is among the highly anticipated announcements in these 12 days. Along with Sora, as per some reports that are close to the company, it is expected that a new reasoning model will also be announced.
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, confirmed the lineup of announcements during a presentation at the DealBook conference of The New York Times, however, he did not reveal any specifications about the same. The company has the intention to reveal or showcase something new each day to the fans for the entire period of 12 days.
Before the launch, several members of OpenAI began to drop hints at the upcoming releases on social media, for example, one of the technical staff members playfully asked users about what they had on their Christmas list, while another one stated that he was lucky to get back in time so that he can put up the shipmas tree.
After the recent protests by the artists who raised their concerns about being used by OpenAI and not being paid, the launch of Sora is particularly timely. The tool has been tested by hundreds of artists in an exclusive research preview throughout 2024, which allows them to create videos using the tool. Former CTO of OpenAI, Mira Murati, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal in March, made a statement that Sora would be out for the public to use by year’s end. In competition with Sora, Google has also rolled out Veo, its brand-new generative AI video model.
