Apple is alerting millions of Mac and MacBook users globally to prioritize updating their macOS and the newest version of macOS Sequoia, designated as macOS 15.1.1 was released earlier this week.
Following this, the significant 15.1 update fixed several minor bugs and security vulnerabilities while introducing the initial set of generative AI features in the Apple Intelligence suite. The release notes for macOS Sequoia 15.1.1 highlight two problems that have been resolved.
The first involves a fix to JavaScriptCore, related to maliciously crafted web content and the other addresses an issue with WebKit which concerns processing maliciously crafted web content which could lead to a cross-site scripting attack.
These issues are labelled as CVE-2024044308 and CVE-2024-44309, moreover, Forbes writer Kate O’Flahery has also explored the technical aspects of these vulnerabilities. In a statement from the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency, it was stated that the urgency of installing this update has been underscored.
They have mentioned that Apple has issued security updates to resolve all the vulnerabilities in several Apple products, a cyber attacker could also potentially exploit some of the flaws to gain control over an affected device. CISA has urged the users as well as the administration to review the following adversaries and execute the updates that are required.
Alongside the update to iOS 18 for all the latest devices, Apple is also rolling out an update for iOS 17 to make sure that fixes are accessible for the best variety of iPhones.
Users can manually initiate an update to macOS 15.1.1 and then they can get to the System Settings/ Software Update and General and also tap on the Update Now button. For older Mac models, the path is different, the users can open System Preferences and then finally select Software Update.
